Applications
The development of Friction Stir Welding is highly sought after by the engineers at NASA for use on the shuttle replacement. The reason FSW is being researched so heavily is because it can be used in situations where fusion welding is impossible or very difficult. The situations include 2xxx and 7xxx aluminum, as well as titanium and other alloys that are not as condusive to traditional welding methods.[2]
